6wt % Ag/ZnO thin film, prepared by sol-gel technique, was used in the treatment of a
synthetic textile wastewater composed of a mixture of three reactive azo dyes (RR 195, RY
145 and RO 122). The decolurization rate in case of individual dyes and a mixture of dyes
was studied. The decolurization rate in case of individual dyes was found to be faster than
that of a mixture of dyes. This was owed to the competition among the three dyes in the
solution. The rate constant has been proved to be dependent on the chemical structure of each
dye. Effect of catalyst dose, dyes concentration and addition of hydrogen peroxide as electron
scavenger on the photocatalytic degradation has been studied.
