Transparent conductors (TCs) are used in energy technology, for information display, and in
many other areas. The talk will give a broad perspective on TCs and starts by introducing key
aspects of thermal and solar energy, absorption in the earth’s atmosphere, and visible light.
This information will then lead to the introduction of TCs based on thin films of metals and
semiconductors as well as brief discussions of electrochromics and thermochromics, which
can be viewed as TCs with properties controlled by electrical charge and temperature,
respectively.
